Detailed description of Batavia Country Club

Batavia Country Club, is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located just a short drive from Buffalo or Rochester in Batavia, New York.

The golf course at Batavia Country Club first opened for play in 1962. The course was designed by local contractors.

The course is hilly, especially the back nine. With only a handful of relatively flat holes and measuring in excess of 7,000 yards, this is definitely not an easy course for walker. The fairways are generally wide although there are quite a few trees that come into play. The greens are mostly on the medium size. Most green-side bunker placements leave a generous amount of room to get on the green. There are some water hazards on the course, but only a handful actually come into play.

The Batavia Country Club golf course measures 7,225 yards from the longest tees for course rating of 73.9 and a slope rating of 122. Batavia golf course plays to a par-72.

The course has the standard hole distribution of four par 5’s, four par 3’s and ten par 4’s with quite a bit of variety with-in each grouping.

PAR-3s ____________

#3 is considered the best of the par-3s. It plays to about 170 yards and has a pond in play on the right and a bunker on to the left side of the green. The remaining par-3s, #7, 13, and 17 are fine but not memorable.

PAR-4s ____________

#8, 15 and 18 are the better par-4s. #8 plays to about 400 yards from the white tees and has a pond in front, ample trees and a meandering, small creek on the left that requires you to make the most of a blind tee shot. Once you have cleared the approach area, there is a large bell that announces to the next group that they are free to tee off.

#15 is probably the hardest hole on the course. It is a relatively long par 4 with a number of trees that can come into play. #18 is a short down the hill par 4. A well place tee shot is need to set up the approach shot.

PAR-5s ____________

#1 and #2 are both 5’s. #1 is a gently, up-sloped long hole with a wide fairway and a smattering of trees; its length makes up for any lack of hazards. #2 is a short down hill par-5 with OB on the left and a sizable pond in front of the green.

The first par-5 on the back nine is #12, an uphill hole that requires requires three good shots to be on the green in regulation. #16 is the last par 5 and is rather long. At least it is downhill to the green and offers a great view from the hilltop tee box.
